Dr. Begüm Başdaş received her PhD in geography from the University of California Los Angeles (2007) and her MA in art history from the University of California Riverside (2001). She completed her BA in sociology at Boğaziçi University, Turkey. For six years, she also worked full-time as a human rights campaigner at Amnesty International Turkey. Begüm is currently a Senior Einstein Fellow at the Berlin Institute for Integration and Migration Research of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Her research interests include migration; political theory; human rights; and gender and sexuality in Turkey, Greece, and the EU.
