Selin Kepenek is a PhD candidate in political science at the University of Toronto, specializing in comparative politics and public policy. She holds the Joint Initiative in German and European Studies Fellowship at Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto. She is currently a research coordinator at York University’s Centre for Refugee Studies. Her research interests are transnational political mobilization, diaspora voting, authoritarianism, and comparative politics. Her doctoral project titled “Transnational Voting and Political Mobilization of Turkish Migrants in Berlin and Toronto” focuses on the political mobilization of Turkish migrants in transnational elections, with a comparative analysis focusing on Berlin and Toronto. This research explores how different migrant communities from the same country of origin are influenced by their respective host countries in their political activities. Specifically, the study examines the impact of local political, social, and economic contexts on migrants' electoral mobilization and party support. By integrating individual and group-level analyses, this project aims to provide a deeper understanding of the drivers behind participation in transnational elections and the role of grassroots movements in enhancing voter turnout and trust in the electoral process.
