POSSIBILITY OF JUSTICE UNDER DEMOCRACY: COMPARATIVE STUDY OF POST-TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE PRACTICES OF ARGENTINA AND TURKEY

Project description

tbdProject Description: Starting from the end of 1990s, there is a global movement of calling leaders of former authoritarian regimes to account in the courts for human rights violations committed under their regime. The attempt to secure justice after transition to democracy for human rights violations committed years or decades ago is increasingly named as “post-transitional justice”. This research project comparatively studies the prosecution processes of former military junta in Argentina and Turkey in the post-transitional period with a special focus on the actors that shape the court’s response to past human rights violations, and their relative effect on judicial accountability outcomes.
