TRANSNATIONALIZATION AMONG EUROPEAN ANTI-GENDER MOVEMENTS ON TWITTER

Researcher
Dominika Tronina

Project description

The project investigates aspects of horizontal transnationalization among European anti-gender movement organizations on Twitter. First, it explores two forms of transnationalization online, namely the horizontal interaction among anti-gender movement organizations and the spread of similar online actions in different countries. It maps the transnational networks of anti-gender movement organizations on Twitter and examines the organizations’ online action repertoire using their respective tweets. Second, it investigates the conditions under which transnationalization on Twitter arises by drawing on political opportunity structure, resource mobilization and diffusion theory. Doing so, the research aims to contribute to better understanding the mechanisms of social media for transnational movement building, and to further comprehending the Europe wide phenomenon of anti-gender mobilization.
